Hello Everyone.
Been out of my fishing hobby for some time now, about 7-8 years. Never been more than a novice, but really enjoy it when I do. Getting ready to get back started and wanted some equipment info. I have a couple of Shimano (my fav) and about 8 other bait cast setups. Been watching some Youtube FYI lure configuration videos to get away from those store brought ones, gotta work on my knot tying. What is some good things I can do to get my equipment back up to snuff? Went to get my license the other day and accidentally pulled out my VA card. The guy asked for it and ran it and found out I qualified for free combo for life as a DAV. I'm not gonna let this privledge go to waste, so gonna get back fishing, on a more routine basis. Love croakers, reds and flounder.

Welcome to the Fishing Stage, Papa! There are a lot of knowledgeable people on here; some even in the Houston area. If you like to fish, learn, or laugh, this is a good place to hang out.

Welcome back. I would recommend a good cleaning and new line on the reels. Others may come along who can help with the what to use and where. Good luck and thanks for your service!

Welcome to the stage Papa Cass. Is there a Mama? Good name. There are quite a few Texans on here and a couple for sure from your area. You'll be hearing from them I'm sure. How much was the combo for life? When you catch some, post us some photos. Give your reels a good clean and lube, replace them old lines with new and check your rods' eyelets for cracks. Should be good to go.

In California in order to get a free fishing license you have to be a blind, deaf quadriplegic. And it don't matter if you served or not. I never put any time in the service, I was in the Navy for 21 years. Everyday a holiday, every meal a feast. Thank you for yours, and good for Texas for honoring it.

If you hit "quote reply" the person you are replying to's name with appear in your reply (as above). Otherwise, not. That's the only difference.

Vandenberg is down around LA (just north) and I live up by Sacramento, A good 450 mies apart. LA and Sac are actually universes apart. At least in separate galaxies.
