Hi guys and gals. Taking my grandson on party boat in Long Island Sound, Connecticut for stripers and bluefish. Anybody have any secrets for success. I'm thinking like fish oil or something to give us an extra attractant .
Fred? Any ideas

Bunker oil might help on bait depending on what kind. Might be snag and drop on a bunker school. Never fushed that area so I dont know what methods they use.

Here in N C i been getting a few on Diesel Z man baits with a squirt of Pro-cure Shrimp gel. Where you are i would watch and see what the locals are using.

If you get into a bunch of blues, you don't need any secret weapons, all you need is a hook if they're hungry.

Yankeeblue, they will probably jig for Bluefish with regular diamond or sandeel jigs. Depending how deep the Bass are, they may jig for them,or chunk bait. A little bunker oil on a jig won't hurt, but won't be needed for Bluefish. They attack anything that moves. Tell your grandson to make sure his arms are in shape. Them Bluefish will wear him out! What boat are you going on?

Thanks guys. I think they use diamond jigs. I want to try to get under the bluefish and find the bass, but that's tough to do especially when there are a lot of blues.i will try the bunker oil, that sounds like a good idea. We're going on the sunbeam Fred. Thanks for the advice about grandson but he is 15 and bigger than me. I'm worried more about the old man still being in shape. I used to be able to land tuna and sharks, now I'm worried about a big striper

With the slot length we have now,(28-<35) they may try to separate the 2 by fishing different areas for each. This is the first year we've had a maximum size, so I'm not sure how they handle releasing so many fish. I'm sure that they are still fine tuning their methods, due to the late start of their season. I'm sure you guys will have a great time. Take lots of pictures, and be safe out there!

I’m not sure where you are in relation to Block Island but they have been catching some monster stripers on live eels during the day on the southwest ledge , fish finder rig or a egg sinker with a good swivel 3 ft of fluorocarbon leader and a circle hook drop it right to the bottom , hopefully past the blue fish, four cranks up put it in the rod holder till it doubles over remember it’s a circle hoot so don’t set the hook when they take the eel hope ya get a big one

If the blues are working on the surface, try to put your rig in the water outside that area, drop it the the bottom and work it back in. The stripers will be under the blues picking up the pieces. I'm not sure you'll be able to on a boat but try.

Thanks Fred. Good point, hopefully there will be a lot of fish to release. That will be a good problem to have. Will send pics

Thanks for the help Joe. We will probably be fishing off Fishers Island in what is called The Race. It is about 10 miles from Block Island
