I’m new to the world of fishing. I was raised that boats were for waterskiing, sunbathing and swimming and my poor ol’ Dad would roll over in his grave if he knew I was out there fishing! My hubby fished a lot in his youth, but mostly on rivers. He started me with spinning reels. I managed to snap then end off my pole trying to unsnag my line. My new rod and reel is pink and has blinking lights when you reel in - but it does work!
So far I have learned how to tie a fisherman’s knot. I know how to go bra-less ... no wait... barb-less - when necessary, I’ve got a variety of Mepps “they’re the best” (quote from my husband), clip swivels, barrel swivels, leaders, clippers and pliers and split weights, a bobber and some trout baits ... but I just can’t do the worms. Eww.
Now that I have said all that... we are looking for some Inland Northwest fishing gems. We have a boat on the Spokane River and Lake Coeur d’Alene but we prefer (so far) fishing from the banks of a river where I can cast my spinning reel and hubby can practice and relearn his fly fishing techniques. I prefer to catch something I can eat and we love trout.
If anyone knows of some great place to fish ... please share.

Its been years since I lived in Coeur D’Alene but the middle or North fork (My favorite) of the CoeurD’Alene was always good. The further up river The better as fewer people went there for recreation.

Did you go up the dirt road 10-15 mi? Thats were it really gets fun fishing. Usually by yourselves
There are a number of good rivers in E WA and northern Idaho as well. Some are selective fishing, no bait. Some caution you on eating your catch, Spokane upper river I believe. But check out the Okanogan river and country, along with the lakes. The Methow is a very good trout stream for fly fishing. The Natches and Yakima are great trout streams.
Thanks... we are headed to the St. Joe River next week and plan on Methow soon!

The St Joe has some great areas for seeing bears also. Watch and you should see some if you go early morning or late day.
Yikes.. we’ll bring the bear spray!
