The first one was to easy. What is this? What bait do you use to catch it?

Looks like a Spade fish (bait stealers)...I catch them with fresh dead shrimp. They have strong jaws so I use a tiny hook and cover and works every time.

Gordon, I have most of it cleaned but still more to go. Work and travel has been crazy. I'm hoping to finish this weekend.

It is a spade fish very good eating. We use jelly balls (pieces cut from the large jelly fish in our area S.C.
They come in huge schools and we hang a couple of whole jelly fish on a coat hanger and let it down into the water about 6 feet and when we see the school moving the line around we bait small pieces on small hooks
and let them down. Great fun and if you do it right you can catch your limit in just a few minutes.

Yes they are good eating. Check the law on them now. They just changed it last month if Im not mistaken. We go to Capers Reef or 4KI to catch them.

South Carolina saltwater anglers will have a few more fishing regulations to adhere to starting this spring. The South Carolina Legislature has approved a pair of bills affecting Atlantic spadefish and tripletail, with both only awaiting ratification by Gov. Henry McMaster. Bill S-274 puts a first-time minimum size limit on spadefish of 14 inches.

New South Carolina fishing regulations begin in the spring ...

Here in S.C. they change the laws in the middle of the season. You could get the regulation book at the beginning of the year and keep it in your boat but can't really rely on it being correct all year through.
My fishing club has a great relationship with S.C.D.N.R and they help us and we help them. If you check out the Paradise Reef 3 miles off the coast of Murrells Inlet we are responsible for most of that. Our coast is very flat
and we need some things put down as cover but man is it expensive.

Hemi. Here's another one for you. Starting today. 7/15/2000. You need to have on board a decending device if you fish for snapper of grouper. You have to use non offset, non SS circle hooks also
