Your reliable measurement tool and also weight scale for those that are close to call?

I recently purchased a Rapala 25# scale which is amazingly accurate. It comes with a clamp to hold the fishes jaw...and a bottle opener 😉
I also have an adhesive ruler on the side of the boat.

The top of my cooler with hack marks is my go to when in doubt.

I carry a fabric measuring tape in my pack when I'm surf fishing. Usually have a measure board in the truck if I'm driving on the beach. If I'm on a boat the measurements are on the cooler lid.

I get the cooler lids guys, but what if it came down to a fish that was questionable by say a 32nd of an inch, release it or take that chance?

release it because they shrink and loose about a 1/4" or so and the DNR WILL give tickets for under size fish

MT, I've got a Mustad digital scale that I put a Rapala fish gripper on. Also have an 18in aluminum measuring stick on the boat. Mostly moot as I weigh and release 95%of the time anyway. Anything I decided to keep would have to be 1/4 over the minimum, just to be safe.

That’s what I was looking for. I release also except in tourney situations. They tell you they are gonna use say the golden rule to measure so I would compare my ruler with it to be on the safe side. Each device seems different.

Haven't had a 1/32" but have had a 1/8" short of legal. I am with the release guys. Not worth the risk especially since us guys know about shrinkage. HeHe

I wouldn't even consider one that close. I know I can count on at least a quarter inch shrink even in a cooler . Edit... looking back I guess I'm not alone here.

Is a 3/8 inch safe though? Any tourney or any type of enforcement are going by their measuring tool not yours. If that fish was caught early it could shrink as much as 1/2 inch all day long. Agree or not?
