The best way I know to find out is to go fishing there and if you don't get shot it might be open. I went with my dad-in law, and Brother-in-law to a pond they said they had permission to fish, and all of a sudden I was alone when the owner arrived gun in hand. After we had talked awhile he gave me permission to fish there but to tell them other fellers he'd shoot them on sight. I never went back there though.
