The blues are beginning to show up here in Maine. What are some good lures for them? I don't use live bait..

I remember those. I used to use them for cod, but they were pretty large. Perhaps a smaller size would be better.

They can be large, but there are different sizes. Bluefish will go after anything shiny

When you see blues feeding, top water lures are really fun. They are so aggressive the strikes can be awesome. Another good and smaller lure is the rapala

I'm good then. I have more shiny stuff than a cheap flea market. Thanks.

Any kind of metal. Hopkins, Kastmaster, Krocodile, Ava jigs. Just avoid anything with rubber because they destroy them. They will hit topwater plugs, swimmers etc, just keep in mind that they can bite through 90# wire. Any plug you use will have holes in it soon.

Here in NC they use plugs different colors but most red and white I have caught them on fresh shrimp with a bottom rig and sometimes when reeling the line back in they hit and if your catch is small they lock on to it

Diamond jigs, kastmasters, large silver spoons, probably anything white with or without red. I tie squid flies and caught them on that. My brothers and I have caught snapper blues (juveniles) on smaller 1-1/2” or so spoons. Great fun, great action, terrific fighters no matter what size. And, though strong tasting, good table fare, loaded with omega fatty acids and good for you.

Anything shiny with a single hook. Blues attack from the rear so almost never use a wire leader. You lose fish when another blue tries to take the lure out of fish’s mouth that your fighting. So, when there thick and feeding heavily I’ll use wire.

Hopkins hammered spoons of various sizes. Cast or troll fast.

Thanks to everyone for all the ideas. I actually have a lot of that stuff for other fish. I love it when I don't have to shell out for a bunch of new tackle.
