Here's a nice Dorado I caught last summer out of Dan Diego on a jig. I won the jackpot on the boat for biggest fish. That just meant that the deckhands on the boat got an extra big tip ...... 🤑

Hoss: That reminds me of a company trip I won which was held at the Doral Country Club in Miami. We went out for day's fishing trip and caught a lot of Daulpin in a school. Brought the filets back and the chef cooked them for our table.

In no time, other members of our group were walking away from huge TBones and Prime Ribs and begging for a plate of our fish. Even the Matre D, asked if he might have some. Fortunately, we had enought to serve all who wanted some. Great catch, great eating, even the golfers liked it. Just Sayin...RJS

Now what's reallly great about mahi is how fast they grow. A 28" striper is 7 or 8 years old. A mahi at that size is only 2 or 3.

I still have a scar on my thumb from line burn on a 58 pound dorado that ripped off about 100 feet of line before I could get the lever on my spool off free spool and my thumb was smoking and what did I do stick it overboard in the saltwater to smart even more. The ice chest was my next thought!! Every time I get on a deep sea fishing trip I think of that. We had a ton of fun and yes it is great eating.

FishingFool: Well, Hoss, a scar on the first index of your thumb is the mark of a true fisherman, and one that has caught something big enough to brag about.

I was trolling a proto-type Bomber Bait Co. Water Dog with my father in law, Ike Walker, a partner in the company. We wanted to test how the new aluminum bill would wear since they had always used brass before in other Bomber diving lures.

I caught a bass, perhaps 2 to 3 pounds. It ripped line off my direct drive bait casting reel so fast it put a blister on the first joint of my left thumb that remained there as a scar for years and years, in fact I think I can still feel it! Just Sayin...RJS
