First i want to say thank you to everyone that's helped over the past few days, I've learnt a lot. That being said I've come to my choice of rod and reel, rod: 6'9 Shimano Alivio DX, reel: shamino sahara FI (3000 size spool). I'll be fishing big streams to medium rivers and some lakes for whatever is there. This might be a dumb question but i want to be sure.
Any help appreciated.

I will usually use mono line anywhere from 6-15lbs test hardly get broken off usually when I do it's from a poor knot or Pike broke me off.

I use mono because it doesn't stretch like flouro does and it's easier for me to feel a light bite.

I personally use P-Line. It’s a reputable brand but doesn’t hold the price tag like seaguar does. I’ve started to run it on all my bait casters from 10lb to 17lb (florocoated) and 8 lbfor my spinning set up. I run 4-6 for my ultralight trout rods and I have had zero complaints. You can get fluorocarbon coated, full on floro, copolymer, braid, etc.

Mono does stretch, floro doesn't. I use 20lb braid and, if I am fishing clear water, a floro leader.
I prefer mono. Trilene XL is really good. Sufix has a new one I want try called “Advance.” They also have a new flouro under the same name. In my opinion, flouro has the worst handling qualities of all. I don’t know if its benefits are worth the additional aggravation.

Depends on a lot of stuff....
But. I like Sufix 832
Use 20 lb test Costal Camo
And Flurocarbon leader, size adapts.
Uni to uni to main line and a loop not to artificial.
