I want to spend the money on a decent pole for river/freshwater fishing. Ive never owned a pole that holds more than 8lb test line. I want to go for fish in the 10-30lb range. What pole, reel, line do you folks use?

Edit: i totally meant to say salt water fishing. Sorry

Hoping for some stripers among other things. I believe the limit where i live is 28" to keep one. Im hoping to get into more river and salt water fishing in general. Grew up with ponds and lakes. A lot of bass fishing.

I meant to say salt water in my post, not fresh. My bad.

Sounds like you want a inshore rig or something close. I am not up on the gear. Someone will give you some solid choices though. I know they tend to use a bit longer rods but the specs I am not sure about. I know Stripers can test a rod and reel. I have caught a few on vacations.

Fishing from the beach get a ugly stick big water, from a pier or boat, get a ugly stick striper. You can move up a notch to a ugly stik Tiger rod. if you routinely get big fish or use big chunks of bait/ sinkers, that stresses yer rod.

You want a rod marked as MH. It needs to support your up to 30 LB line. The reel should also be 20-30 LB drag. 7 foot min if fishing from shore. Better 9-10 foot still MH. Think Surf fishing. The rod needs to be light enough you can cast it off and on for hours.
