What to do when I see multiple smaller bass?

So at this small lake I go to frequently, I can find 10-11 inch bass really easily that just sit on the shore where there is cover. I assume these are fairly young and have a larger mother fish nearby, how do I find her, or any larger bass with this information. I just don’t want to catch the really small bass because I’m putting a hook through their mouth for little sense of accomplishment, but anything over a foot is good to me. Thanks for the help!

I don't think bass really guard or raise their young so I would not assume a big mama bass is hanging out nearby.

Not an expert, but from my understanding bass are cannibalistic and group together with other bass that are similar in size. So smaller bass groups does not mean a larger mother is nearby, they’re just chilling with each other because they know they won’t eat each other.

That being said, if you do hook onto one of those big mamas you’re looking for, keep fishing that spot, there’s probably more big bass!

Bass don’t guard their offspring really beyond the spawn. It doesn’t mean that there ISNT large bass nearby small bass, but it doesn’t mean their definitely is either. If there are large bass nearby, it’s unrelated to them potentially being related (if that makes sense).

It’s all a matter of cover and food. Plain and simple. Bigger bass will usually be in better cover. Heavy vegetation, docks, brush piles, etc. As for food, If you can find the baitfish, there is likely good sized bass nearby, especially in the morning and evening when they prefer to feed.

Hoss: I don't know all the circumstances of what you are describing, but if I were fishing and catching foot long bass, I'd move! As mentioned before, those small bass school for protection. Look elsewere for good cover, meaning a good place for a big bass to ambush other fish. Dropoffs, ledges, tree stumps, etc.

Practice your casting until you can hit a small target like withing a foot of a stump that is under overhannging limbs! Those big lunker bass dont get that big by doing dumb things or out looking for trouble, in short they avoid the crowd and that's how they survive to be old, big bass.
