I haven’t fished since I was a kid, was looking to get back into it. What are some recommended rods and whatnot that won’t cost that much

Shakespeare Ugly Stik is a great choice if you are looking to spincast. I only spin; haven't baitfished since I was a kid. Ugly Stik rods are indestructible basically and really responsive but their reels are mediocre. Still, for 35-50 bucks, it's hard to go wrong. I started fishing again about 8 years ago and still use my Ugly Stiks all the time, though I have changed the reels out on both rods, recently. Good value for the money. Have fun!

I would just get a cheap 20 dollar walmart rod. Shakespear or zebco or whatever. If you end up getting back into fishing enough you might step it up to a 80 to 100 dollar rod, id recommend a lews myself.

I would go with Shakespeare I notice the forty dollar rod seven foot has done good for me I noticed bigger they are they are litte more durable
Ugly Stick ... I use them almost all the time
I just paid $18.00 for a 6 1/2 foot Shakespeare fiberglass rod at Wal-Mart for my girlfriend. She wanted a two piece. But I love the one piece 7' Berkley fire rod for $39. It is a great rod made for braided lines.
I think you did great. For me sometimes it is a personal preference. I don't see that much advantage.
