How long is the rod, what is it’s action? Most are 6’6” or 7’, medium action I believe. It will be printed on the rod, above the handle somewhere. If that’s the case, I’d go with 12-lb test monofilament or 15-20 lb test braid. As for length, you’ll want to put on enough line so that there’s at least a 1/16 inch of spool rim visible. You don’t want the line to fill the spool to the point that it’s flush with the rim. A bit less.

Important note, make sure that the line goes into the reel in the same way that it comes off of the manufacturer’s spool. Otherwise, you’ll have wind knots and will have the line jumping off of the reel.

The rod will say the range of weight line it can support, and the reel will say how much it can hold of what size line. It’s hard for anyone here to tell you how much to spool on because you haven’t said how big the reel is. A 1,000 size reel is much smaller than a 4,000 size reel.

That being said, I like to run 10-20 lb braid on my spinning reels and then a fluorocarbon leader that’s about 1.5x the length of the rod.

8lb florocarbon is what I put on medium action rods. With your rod being the combo you’ll probably want to get a 300 yard Spool.

I would go for a 12 to 15 lb braid, some backing on the reel to prevent slippage and fill it to around 1/16 to 1/8 from the lip of the reel.

IMHO.....the "...1/16" inch of spool rim visible...is too full!..."......I use 1/8" ,...the 1/16" keeps jumping on me !!!

Some it depends on what you are fishing for. Bass braid and flourocarbon leader works well. Mono leader is an option. My bass rigs are 15 to 20 lb. braid with either leader 8 to 12 lb. Rainbow, brook, brown or tiger trout I use 4lb test. For floating lures I use mono as it floats. For other lures I use flouro as they are fished below the surface . Braid doesn’t matter so much here.

Identify what you will be fishing for. Line weight can vary from #4 test for trout to #20 test for redfish. Look on the reel it should tell you what # test and how many yards it holds From that you can judge not only what you are fishing for but can also judge how much backing you want on the spool to save on the length of working line. Don't overfill with backing and be sure to use a proper knot ( I like the double uni knot ) to connect backing to line and also line to leader. Other good knots are the FNG, Albright and uni.

I've had that too but if I keep the line reasonably tight reeling it works ok. 1 loose section will mess you up

Works ok until you start casting a light lure that offers no resistance--back at square one with overfill. Go with 1/8 but keep the pressure on the spool when your loading it. With use it will loosen a bit and be in the perfect place for the perfect cast. 3/32nds. Depending on the diameter of the line you chose.

Yup, I own two. I throw on 8lb line. Caught I'd say a three pounder just tonight with 8lb on an ugly gx2.
