5.65 lbs for the guy who is just learning to use a bait caster. It didn’t help that fishing was tough today when I’m teaching the guy how to cast a bait caster. He fires out a 12” worm on this point were are on and gets a massive backlash. Meanwhile, I lay into something I thought was a whopper; turned out to be a huge cat.
So as I’m getting the cat off I see the new guys line going down the bank. He had just finished getting the backlash out and was winding like crazy to take up all the extra line laying in the boat. Sets the hooks and has a 5+ stud in the boat shortly.
Dam the luck.
Beginner's luck! Good for him. I hope that gives him incentive to learn to control that thing better. He has no idea just how lucky he was that the bait wasn't just hit and spit. Thanks for sharing. Nice pics.

Outstanding.. Nice pic. I can almost see him trying to get the line back on the reel while the fish is running.

Yeh I thought I had a whopper on this morning . It was just a sail cat that hooked it self under its head swimming over the treble hook I had chicken liver on. Sure did fight. Was the only thing I caught. Maybe the skunk is rubbing on me.
Makes for a rapid heart beat when they first hook up. HA.
I foul hooked a spoonbill the other morning about 4’ long. I had it close to the boat three times. I just wanted to get my 6xd crank baits back(they are hard to come by right now). Didn’t work though, the final surge snapped the 12 lb test line like thread. I’ve had multi species days before, but a spoonbill is a new for me.
