I bought a reel with what looks like 30 lb test line already on the reel. Is there an easy to tell the size of the line? With mono you could use a micrometer and actually measure the line but does not work with braid. The line on the reel is good and a lot of it so no use to change the line altho 30 is bigger than what I would use .
If it's bigger than what you want to use, spool it onto an unused reel and use it on something else when you need it. Put whatever line works best for your use on the reel you plan to use.
I thought of doing that but would still know if there is a way to measure braided line.
Thanks for the reply.

There are sizing cards that sport shops have or you can go on line to access one . They denote the comparison braid to mono per diameter ! For instance a30# braid is roughly the same diameter as 10# mono and so on ! Pretty simple to do!
By the way braid will last for years on a reel depending on useage ! UV or memory no worries !

The problem with trying to measure it is that it will vary from one manufacturer to another. If you knew the brand, and what version of the brand, it wouldn't be all that hard, but without knowing more, your best bet is to take a piece and add weight until it breaks.
Thanks for the replays, good ideas.
