Advise on gear and tactics for SW fishing in Cape Canaveral / Cocoa Beach FL

Im heading to Cape Canaveral, FL in May for 5 days. I have a TFO inshore travel rod 1/4-2oz and a Daiwa BG 4000 with 20lb braid. I am from New England and fish mostly for stripers/bluefish/Albies with lures.

Just wondering if anyone had any advise on what kind of lures I should bring and what species I should target in the month of May. I was hoping on fishing from the beach in the early morning then finding some jetties or structure later in the day. I think there is an inlet not too far from where I am staying as well.

I was planning on bringing one tins of various sizes, soft plastics and jig heads, and some swimming lures like a sp minnow.

Any help would be appreciated!

That's a perfect sized set up for that area. 4000-6000 series reels are great for inlet fishing in Florida. Definitely would recommend picking up some #20 fluorocarbon leader. I usually go with the 300 yrd spool of Berkley Vanish.

Cheaper than buying "leader" and only slightly less abrasion resistant. I like using 1/0 and 2/0 Owner circle hooks for live bait. 1/4-1/2 oz bucktails tipped gulp also work great. Canaveral Park is a decent spot to fish. So are the causeways that span across the Indian River.

If you can find any spillways that lead from the creeks into the Indian River they are also solid. May is a great month for fishing the Space Coast area.

I was hoping to target snook and maybe Spanish mackerel. Not really sure if its the right time of the year for SM though.
