" battery operated drill and an Ebay drill prop "

F F you have my curiosity can you post a pic. I can assume but you know what that means.

Plumbob I use my Ryobi 18 volt drill for power. The prop has inner and outer. The inner is shaft with flats for drill the outer is pvc and a piece of blue foam. I can lay the blue foam on the square member and hold the drill and trigger. You can steer by changing prop direction. It works better with 2 people front steers with a paddle. Im gonna add a foot operated rudder.

I like that Fin and after playing here on the stage i am going to look for the drill prop. Thanks very much for posting a pic. Wasn't registering until i saw what you were talking about. Looks easy enough to use.

Well Fin i found them. My Bonafide is a single seater so the help of another is not possible, so will this steer well enough just over the side of the yak because turning around to put it out the back would be difficult.

You can steer with the drill and even back up which I sometimes do to get in exact place I want. But the foot operated rudder would make the yak turn around in its length using both the drill prop & rudder together. I've used a rudder yak but never got a chance to use them together. It will steer and on my 2 man I can stick the prop out the side and spin the yak around. To bad your so far away as I would be proud to take you out to see what my rig can do.

I am glad you have received ideas that helped you make choices. As a retired Orthotist, perhaps I can better relate to your issues with your Prosthetic leg. An a newer kayaker I can share your concern about a rollover.
By all means contact firms that will allow you to try several kayaks. A Prosthetic leg patient, even sitting, has challenges others simply cannot conceive. Yes ,yes takea course involving dealing with falling out of a kayak!
Recently I accidentally knocked a rod overboard when reaching behind me for my tackle box. It was custom made for me by a fellow student back in the 80's. I grabbed for it and ended up in glacially cold Alpine lake I was on. I have a torn shoulder that will not be replaced until this Covid crisis is defeated, due to potential infection of the Prosthetic implant. So there was no way to get back into the kayak for me, and I was fortunate to be rescued by fellow fishermen. A waterproof whistle is worth its weight in gold! I do not know if you have tried to swim with your Prosthetic limb, but that may pose special problems, or opportunities when trying to get back into a kayak, after falling out. Only a class, with supervision, can provide you with the confidence to deal with such a situation. The best of luck to you. Kayaking is so very special to me, I hope you have the same experience.
