Hey I am in the Iowa city area and tried to fish the Iowa River last summer/fall with minimal success... is there any tips in general for river fishing that y’all might have? I fish mainly for catfish and bluegill but would love to get into some bass fishing too. Thanks to everyone that responds!

Catch bluegills by snags with a slipbobber. Depending on size u catch 4-7” hook straight on line or cut it up in stripes and hold on!!!!! Catfish love cut bait.

I’m also from Iowa. Look for a dam to fish below. You might need some really heavy line but tons of catfish will be below them. Cut bait is the way to go. I like to catch a sucker or carp to use. Fresh is the best and try to keep it as bloody or gutty as possible. They seem to love it. You’ll catch some nice ones! Also use circle hooks about a foot from a 2 oz egg sinker (maybe bigger depending on current you are fishing ) hope this helps!
