What’s the right line?

I’m wanting to setup 2 or 3 rods for inshore/flats fishing. Can you suggest what is the best line for redfish, snook & trout?

Rzfla: What's on your reels now? My first guess is that will do. If the reels are empty, I suppose a good choice would be either 20 lb Mono. or 50 lb. braided. The reason being braided is around 1/3 the diameter of mono and you will have trouble with line that is too small diameter. You don't need anything this strong, but that is a compromise between strength and ease of handlng. Just Sayin...RJS

What’s on there now is about 5 year old 10lb mono. So I’m looking to redo the setup.

What kinda reel you putting it on? Spinning? My opinion, 50 pound braid is probably overkill. 20 is what I use, but I don't fish for those species. But think about it. Are you ever going to catch one of those over 12 pounds or so? 20 pound braid is some pretty tough stuff. You can put a lot more on your reel and then let your drag do the work. That's why you paid all that money for that nice reel in the first place.

I use 20lb braid with 30lb fluorocarbon leader in case you get into a big snook. The 30 will hold up better if one gets the leader behind his gill plate.

A lot of times the reel will tell you the max test recommended for the reel and the same for the rod.
