Marathon Run (as in key) report

Hi guys. Haven't been on the stage for a while due to some projects and getting ready to go up north to see our kids and grands. The trip to Marathon Key was not as great as I had hoped. We were there from June 2-5 and had to deal with the outer bands of Tropical Storm Cristobal. Rough seas and several bouts of rain and thunderstorms. We did manage to fish the seven mile bridge twice and got out on the ocean side on June 3rd. 3-5 foot seas in a 20 foot boat beat us up for about 5 hours. Got a few small porgy's and mangrove snapper shorts at the bridge. We caught some weird reef fish on the ocean side as well as a couple of schoolmaster snapper, some pork fish and a bar jack. Then I caught a fish that ended up being either a topsail chub or a Bermuda chub. Had to google it to identify. As usual, google provided conflicting results, but a local said it was a topsail. Here's a couple of pics.
Hook 'em, land 'em, cook 'em and eat 'em!

Nice pics. The big dark one in the first pic looks like a Bermuda chub. Did it poop all over you when you pulled him out of the water? The pork fish are good eating. Got checked by FWM one day said the pork fish are tropical fish and you have to have them in a live well which we did. Said if they weren't we would have gotten a citation. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah it did foul the boat, but the first pic was after he'd been on ice for a couple of hours. The second pic was fresh out of the water. Who knows whether it was a Bermuda or a Topsail? As you probably know local names vary. Didn't really matter to me as I had never caught one before. I thought the "fresh" pic looked pretty cool. As for the pork fish, the pic was on the dock after we came back to the house right before we cut them up. Once they were out of the well they changed color really quick. Lost their golden shine. You're right, they fried up sweet and delicious. The Chub was just OK. I later found a post while looking for a recipe after we had eaten it that claimed they were poisonous, but nobody got sick or died. Gotta always question the internet. I guess I should have ask the question here. Thanks for the reply Gordon.
