Finding lost Relatives, Classmates, Friends

In doing research for my second book, I was trying to find some trace of my grandmother's family. No trace could be found in her home town, nor in the surrounding area. I had asked several of my kin (those few still alive) and had little or no success.

Finally, by a stroke of luck, one second cousin who grew up in El Paso said grandmother's family name was well represented in El Paso and so I've begun to search there to try and find a connection.

For those of you who are interested, one valuable tool I have used while as a broker and financial advisor was the computer search power. Not only that, but there aree programs to help you. The one I used was bought out by another firm. While I used it the monthly cost was around $4.00/ month. After this acqusition, it went up to almost $20.00 a month and I dropped it.

What I have found now is Whitepages.com and I think they charge me around $5.00 a month, or less. I am not advertising their services not get kickback, but if you are interested, it is a handy way to find people all over the country. It helps to know their approximate age and city. But this service will bring up
a lot more. You might also Google the idea since I'm sure there are several companies who offer similair services.

You might not be interested at all, but I wager a lot of you have someone you'd like to find. Just Sayin...RJJS

Hey RJS, have you tried Ancestry.com. It might be a little expensive but I have found family in Germany from the 1600's. I found out my grandfather and my dad survived a bombing of their house. It seems as you go back in time you find out the family had lots of kids (8 to 15). One other thing, if the are buried in the US I was able to find the gravesites and have pictures of the headstones. You'll find all kinds of things about the family story along with pictures, flags and Crest.
Well it's a start. Tight lines.

TCroft: Yes, I've been on Ancestry.com and found a few relatives. I haven't found much and I guess that Germans have a much more methodical and caring mind than Scots. Or my family may have had some horse thieves and didn't want to know about their ancestors.

My problem in tracing family, iis there's a gap between my great grandfather and whenever earlier ancestors arrived in the U.S. Some stories, but little facts.

I have been in communication with Sir Jamie, Lord Semple XX1 in Scotland who has been a big help in leaning about how my name got changed from (perhaps) Saint Paul, a region in France and those ancestors came over with William the Conquerer to reclaim part of what he believed his kingdom.

Along the way, some were ennobled, and became royalty. Others, were shipped from Scotland over to Ireland to delute the Catholic population. Later, during the potato famine, came on the the U.S.

Those communications will be published in my second book of stories. Just Sayin...RJS

I use white pages.com a lot to look up people. To find classmates try "Classmates.com". I use that also.

Look up ships lists. My wife and I both have found info that way. I have a ancestor that came from England 1624 as a indentured servant. He was subject to be hung and a ship's captain bought him. His crime was stealing a towns man cap that was deep in his cups worth 6 pence.
