Knots - Super Glue Or Not?

I've heard of some folks using Super Glue, Gorilla Glue, or other glues on their knots. At first glance it makes sense. I know, I know, rather than use glue why don't you learn to tie better knots. I tried it any way. So far, only on mono and braid, no fluoro.

After a real small sample of glued knots, I'm thinking it works well on mono, but the glue attacks the braid and actually causes it to weaken and break away from the knot. Anyone else here tried it?

I use SG on my swimbaits but not on my knots. Haven't found the need for it. A good knot should hold without any glue.

I'm with Saw. I've never had the need. Just one more thing to get all over the inside of my tackle box. No thanks.

The improved cinch knot has served me over many decades. Not tough. Double it to tie. Yes , lick it no matter what line you got. And no matter what knot you use.

I won't say I've never had knot unglue, but I will say I've never glued a knot. I have thought about it but probably will never do it. No good reason to.

Using mono a good knot is enough. Braid, well we all make mistakes. No offense braiders. I started using the trilene knot this year and have had no failures. But you make adjustments to knots as you go. No glue.

I’ve used Zap A Gap on my braid for over 15 seasons connections primarily to fill in gaps , it makes for smoother flow thru guides and probably adds a little strength to knot !
It does not weaken braid at all with this glue I’m positive of this !

I fish mostly 20 lb Power Pro and use the polymer knot. I find it easier and have never had a break at the knot. I fish for catfish in the brush and sometimes you hang up and have to break the line. I have a large screw driver to wrap the line around when I break off.

No need to use glue because a good knot like the Palomar knot or improved clinch knot is stronger then your line and in most cases it is not the knot that breaks or slips it is your line, and glue only weakens your line.

I rarely use glue, but have occasionally to reinforce braid to mono or fluoro leaders. Figure it doesn't hurt and some of the braids (e.g. Power Pro Super Slick V2) have a tendancy to slip. Added a drop of glue to my braid to leader knot a few times to boost my confidence in the knot. Never for terminal tackle. No need.
