Hey guys! I took my boy fishing early Sunday morning before church and we both caught a couple Stingrays. He caught about a 12” Round Stingray and I caught a 23” Horned Stingray. It was a huge blessing and relief to finally catch something.

I didn’t really know if you could eat them or not so after taking them home and watching a couple YouTube videos we realized these were the wrong kind to really get any meat. But we did our best and got a couple nibbles off. If nothing else to say we tried to be good stewards of our catch. Next time we’ll know to just throw’em back.

Hopefully my fishing luck only gets better from here.

Welcome to the Forum, Opielostan. You here all kinds of stories about stingrays. I have never, nor will I ever eat them. Thanks for sharing.

Good morning Flyguy, where is your sense of adventure, quest for knowledge. You never know unless you try. I thought eating racoon was gross. But a guy that I worked with made me a plate of BBQ coon, hot buttered corn on the cob, with BBQ coon and beans, pluse coleslaw. Best damn BBQ I've ever had.
So try something new, you never know.
PS: The beans were awesome too.

Mornin' TC & DB Ed. You are so right, coon is so good. You can bake it, smoke it, and BBQ it. Personally, I like smoked coon the best. It has to be a young coon and you have to remove all of the fat when you clean it. It doesn't get any better than that. I was an old coon hunter and I have eaten a ton of it, so good.

If you eat scallops you may have eaten them.

I used to like scallops. I don’t know why I quit eating them. The meat in a stingray is whiteish looking. I used go flounder gigging and I’d stick a couple of small stingrays while were there.

Disreputable seafood purveyors will stamp "scallops" out of the ray wings and sell them as such. To the unwary they look the same.

I guess I’ve been fooled all my life but I thought that’s where they came from. Glad I don’t eat them anymore.
