I am looking to add a sink tip line to my arsenal. I would like to use it for bass fishing in creeks up to 5-6’ in depth. I will probably put this on my 5 weight rod. What type of sink tip do you recommend? I’ve only dealt with floating line up to this point and could use some help figuring out the appropriate weight etc. Thanks!

I like Scientific Anglers titan sonar but you will need to figure out which one works the best for you. The titan sonar is really good at launching big streamers for bass. I might try just the full sink option for you. However, a more tailored in sink gradient will give you in more situations a straighter line to the fish it can be difficult without knowing your river. The sink rate you will want too also kind of depends on the speed of the river as well. As a beginner with first time sink tip maybe choose a full sink in one size so like s6.

Thanks for the input. These are mostly smaller creeks that I plan on fishing (ranging from 6” deep to 6’ deep) with no to slower current.

In that case, I think that maybe sink 3 might be ok for you then.

I found this table on website with sink rates and effective fish depth range. They say that 3-4 ips is good from 3-7 feet and 5-6ips is good from 5-10. So in your case sink 3 might be the best thing for you.

take a look at Rio Clean Sweep. Is working very well for me in stillwater.
If you are fishing 6"-6' water, as you stated, unless your flows are pretty fast, a sink LINE would be a hassle. SINK TIP.... maybe, as well. I would be inclined to use a bead head fly or microshot/or putty on leader. Unless you have an abnormally short leader, combined with fast flow, it's already longer than your depth. ANY weight (fly itself or added) is going to be putting the fly at proper depth, even with a weight forward floating line. Example.. standard(?) 9'-10' (including tippet) tapered leader, with an unweighted fly...2'-3' up the line, add microshot. Depending, of course, on flow rate and "grab"(size & shape) of fly, you are likely to be presenting the fly at about proper depth. Works for me, Good Luck.
