That is a Mantis shrimp. They have hammer claws that can pack a pretty good wallop.

I shall remain silent, I lived in San Diego for 25 years or so. But it sure looks like a Frumious Bandersnatch. Evil little devils.

Gulp makes a mantis shrimp bait. Works well on flounder.

You two guys are pretty good.
Thumb slicers are their nickname

Mantis shrimp. I catch one or two each year casting for white or brown shrimp. They can stun there pray by snapping there body. The precision stuns them.

I've only caught one. My son and I were fishing in the bay and I caught one. I just shook it off.
About a week before I caught it there was a news story on TV that told about a guy that got cut pretty bad. Luckily I was forewarned.

Looks cool but sounds mean. So they have all the cool colors to attract attention then they get lunch?

On the TV, yes I watch TV to learn things about all you guys. That's how come I seem so smart. Back to shrimp. On TV they said that the mantis shrimp flicks its body at the speed of a .22 cal. long rifle bullet. Not that much info though. .22 long rifle bullets fire at between about 1200 FPS all the way to over 1700 FPS for some of the really light bullets. I'm bored. What else do you want me to do?

From what I've read they use the "punch" to break open shell fish and crabs.
