thanks for the birthday messages

My daughter's boyfriend took me fishing at his aunt's cabin/pond. It was in KY and I live in WV. Probably around 50 miles away.
I got up at 5 am and he drove me to the pond. It wasn't a real large pond but OK. The aunt's husband said they loved black worms so of course I put a black wacky worm on & the boyfriend put a dark purple one on.
We didn't get to the pond till after 8 am. I didn't realize it was that out of the way. I thought oh boy I'll catch alot of fish.
Well I didn't catch anything. He caught 1 small bass on the purple worm & I changed over to a Rapala & caught a small one but it jumped up & got off the hook. I did get another strike (but nothing).
I figured it was just too hot & muggy. It was around 79 degrees when I got up at 5 am.
We fished till about noon & I started getting sleepy, so in the meantime he found a live worm & fished with a bobber & never even got a nibble. We gave up.
But that was nice that he took me fishing for my birthday present.
I drove home & plopped down on couch & slept for 3 hrs. then drove back to daughter's house for my birthday presents & daughter ordered Mexican food for our meal. Since they didn't have eat-in service, they did have delivery. A tornado watch warning come up, so I drove home.
I won't want to go fishing at that pond again unless the weather will be alot cooler. They did have a nice dock with comfortable chairs and a roof over the dock.
It was a nice birthday, but would have been excellent if we'd caught alot of fish. (Maybe another time)

Happy (belated) Birthday! If you get the chance to go again, fish earlier, or before sundown. Fish can’t close their eyes, so when the sun climbs, they head for cover or go deep in warm weather.

It was a new pond to me & I've heard there were turtles in it & I did see a couple of water snakes. No way I'd want to go swimming in there.

It would have been an excellent day, if I'd caught alot of bass. It was extremely warm that day and also it was too long of a trip to get there early. So it was already too warm when we arrived at the pond.

You don't like turtles? And unless they were Mocasins them snakes can't hurt you.

Sorry you were disappointed, missy, but that's why it's called 'fishing' and not 'catching' ! But you're right, of course; it is DEFINITELY more fun when
you're having a productive day !
At least you didn't get
'skunked' !

Chuck Berry -
"I went swimmin' down at Turtle Creek;
There were 'snappers' all around my feet !
Sure was hard swimmin' across
that thing
With both hands holdin' my ding-
