Northern Kingfish and Stripers

Did some surf fishing yesterday with clam bellies. I brought a large rod for stripers and a smaller one for the kingfish. The kingfish are very big this season and they hit the bait hard. I took one on the striper set up! And a 22” striper on the smaller rod. I’m not sure it knew it was hooked until I started reeling it in. The rod was staked, and I saw it go slack and move down shore. Good thing it didn’t run while I wasn’t watching.
