Just started tying flies 2 months ago. Fished the Catskills in Roscoe, NY for the first time last night. Caught my first Brown trout on an Adams that I tied. Caught another on an RS2 that I tied. And had some bites on my Rusty Spinner. Was really gratifying to know the fish will eat my flies.

Welcome to the Forum, Paulie, it looks like a good job of fly tying to me. Now build a rod and catch a fish on a rod that you have built and a fly that you have tied. That, my friend, is gratifying. Welcome on board.

You have done that many times, Mike. I'll bet Paulie can tie a fly faster than you can build a lure.

Hey Paulie, I applaud your tying. What a joy it is to create a fly and have it catch a fish; one of life’s satisfactions. Of course, FlyGuy has a mare out back and in his spare time weaves the tail hairs into fine double-taper fly lines in sizes 3 thru 6, for real personal enjoyment. I, on the otherhand, am growing a stand of Japanese BambOo that i’ll be crafting six-section classic rods from, as soon as I perfect the method of forging my own SS guides, and making my own varnish from the mare’s hooves, when she’s done with them. I, too, enjoy time spent at the tying desk, whether I catch anything with the flies or not, it’s great enjoyment. I am very glad to have Youtube nowadays; wish I had it as a learning source back in the sixties.

Nice work, especially for only 2 months tying. Now, create your own pattern and use that to catch fish, that is really gratifying. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't try something different. When I teach fly tying/lure making classes, the first thing I tell them is that there are no rules, if you want to try it, go for it.

Sorry JustRight, I think horses are a money pit. All of mine have been anyway.

Takes me at least three days to build a lure counting drying times between paint and finishes

Great job tying your own flies. What a great satisfaction to have a fish bite on a fly you tied. Thanks for sharing and your pics of the flies

Very nice - do you send out samples of your accomplishments to see if they work in other parts of the country? Got to have a variety of testers for your products - 😂😂😂😂😂 - kinda like R&D people. Give em heck!
