Swimbait keeps spinning

I have this soft swimbait on a 4/0 offset hook Texas rigged with no weight and it keeps spinning but idk why. I rigged it basically perfectly straight. Also the paddletail has barely any action.

I'm not an expert on swimbaits by any means, but I've heard it mentioned many times that if you are Texas rigging freestyle type swimbaits, that is those that don't come pre-rigged, you need some weight to help keel the bait. Owner makes a weighted hook called "beast" that works very well for this.

Ok thanks. I have a few weighted hooks that came with a saltwater box. I'll see if those work. Would a bullet weight help?

The weight has to be on the bottom of the hook or it won’t keel properly. Look at a picture of the owner Beast hooks and that should give you an idea of what you need.

This can happen with cheap swimbaits that are too stiff, or if the paddle tail is crooked. If the tail is crooked, try dipping it in boiling water to let it straighten itself out.

Trim it so its hydrodynamically straight.

Stop using an “offset” hook, that style of hook causes the lure to spin.

I rig all my swimbaits on jig heads. You can get them in just about any size and weight you want and they work great. Occasionally you will get a swimbait out of a package that just doesn't run right. Just try another one in that case.

Use an EWG worm hook instead of the offset one. Use the heavier gauge ones and the weight will be enough to keep your swimbait straight. There is also a version that has weight on the shank, if you really need it.
