Greetings!

I just registered on this blog and apologize for not setting up my profile yet...
But I’m heading up to Moosehead Lake/Lily Bay/Greenville,ME this weekend with my boys. It’s my first trip there and was hoping the someone could help me zero in on some areas to concentrate on for
LLS, SMB, LMB, BT, and I hear say a Lake Monster or two?

I’m boating with 17.5 aluminum w/ 115hp.

I really appreciate you time and any suggestions.

Steevo

I am not an expert but from the reading I have done moosehead is mostly a trout and landlocked salmon fishery. Once the water warms up you might Find some bass. It has been a cold spring in New England so I suspect moosehead is still pretty cold. Bring the fly fishing rods and get some nice trout

Glad to whistle you on board! Lily Bay is the place of many wonderful memories for me, though it has been a goodly number of years ago. The man who owned the fish camp there was an excellent guide. I always wanted to get one of his handmade canoe paddles. Your boat sounds nice, but for me, a simple canoe worked fine. I used a couple of different fly rod rigs; one of which was a length of lead-core line on the front to get the two-hooked streamer down further. The canoe provided just the right amount of movement as I paddled over an area. Do not neglect the beaver ponds that can be reached by walking. I remember having to chase a moose or two off a pond so I could fish it. (Boy, are they ever dumb animals. I could never figure why anyone would want to hunt them; no real sport in it!) Be sure to hike the area with your boys. I can still taste the wild strawberries we gathered one beautiful day. I still have on my office desk a couple of treasured stones I picked up while just poking around the woods there. If it is still standing, go to the communal outhouse and read the graffiti --- all gathered over the decades! My favorite is, "Avenge thyself! Live long enough to be a problem to your children!" Black flies may be a problem. I always armed myself with a Munimaker cigar with a dark Connecticut wrapper. Moosehead Lake is a slice of heaven. Go! Make yourself and your boys some wonderful memories --- and maybe, catch a fish or two for supper!

Welcome Steevo,
Wish I could help, but haven’t fished there. However, when I am on new water in colder climates, I look for structure, points and bays on the N and W shores where the warmest water would be. The wind will also blow the warmest, surface water to one side. That is where the baitfish will be and just below them will be your targets trying to eat them. If you find weeds, try the outside edges, too. If you don’t have a depth finder, get one. You don’t have to break the bank, either. That looks like an awesome lake with tons of potential. Good luck.

I have not fished or even been there, but would love to go with you. Are you familiar at all with the history of the area? Benedict Arnold and his expedition to Quebec, up the Kennebec and down the Chaudier. A fantastic story of a great leader who for whatever reason went bad.

Spirit, I love to know about the histories of places I fish and hunt. Just out of my yard on what used to be my Granddaddy's farm is, Bloody Shirt Pond. Other places are, Indian Head Bay, Indian Pond(my PB bass), Wolf Sink (where the Red Wolfs went when My great great Grandfather ran them with his hounds, after one took an infant child from a church social) There are many more stories from where I live.

I haven't been there for years, but I did have good luck catching rookies out of Wilson Pond. I particularly remember a pretty 17 incher I got trolling a Mooselook Wobbler.
Good luck.
