Yes I was Navy, after being around the Corps over for 18 Years. I was with the (BWN) in Nam on the rivers and deltas but enough of that.
I've enjoyed the reading, banter and information gleamed from the authors and have a few I'd really like to discuss different fishing thoughts and one being Spirit of 27 and his fishing for surf perch, never could catch them.
Again yes, I'm in Ontario CA, at this time originally from North Carolina, Jacksonville home of the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Le Jeune and great fishing all over the state. Though I've heard from relatives with the limits being set in rivers, surf, piers and inland water ways has come come close to ruining the fun. Not knowing which river, species, size etc. is fowling up what we used to enjoy, a days fishing topped off with a fish fry, cole slaw, baked beans and hush puppies. I'll be finding out soon enough as about to semi retire, start driving, camp where I can fish where I can. and when i get tired come back and work a little. Enough said again!

Welcome ole Salt. Good info here and a few laughs and lies,😱🤣
One ole salt to another, welcome to the stage. You should go into your profile and add your city and state to the location field. To anybody just getting into the surf perch game, I always recommend Bill Varney's book available on Amazon for 6.99 "Fishing the Surf: The Light Line Revolution". He spends a lot of time talking about perch. He's got a shop down in your area (LA) somewhere and I've found that if you email him he will answer. He's online at (fishthesurf.com). Check him out I used to fish a lot down San Diego way. Any time you want to talk about perch in particular or just fishing in general, give me a pm buzz or just do a regular post - there's other folks on here with tons of information about perch. They're pretty easy to catch.
By the way, I am not associated with Bill Varney or his book or his shop in any way, I've just found that all to be a reliable source of useful information.

Welcome O.S. to the stage.good people & good info!!!
I caught salt water worm in tide pools for Surf Perch. They have teeth. We fished off rocks on Washington side of Columbia up here but surfperch are down where you are too. Just gotta throw out beyond where the waves are white. We caught one every minute or less this time of year with salt water worms with teeth like beaks. Mean for worms. Their bellies were full of sand crabs though. You can use sand crabs too but they are small.
Welcome Old Salt I am in Hampstead right around the corner from your old fishing grounds yes the rules has change so much you have to have a license to fish the surf no flounder right now limited on almost everything but still good fishing right now we have a private pier at Tidewater’s Landing and surf city pier and topsail Island is about 5 to 10 minutes away so it’s awesome here
Welcome to the forum OS. Don't know anything about surf perch but it sounds like fun.
