I fished this lake back when I was 12 years old & I landed a 19 lb kamaloop. now I am 65 years old & you can still land very large fish there. anybody out there been there? I can not remember what I used I think it was plug of some kind. but I am going there in july so I guess I will find out then. 30 lb rainbows, walleye, kamaloop, bull trout. this lake is very deep the record was hooked at 500 ft. 1947 was the year. Moved away from there 15 years ago - still very good fish when I moved. Ask the local shops they will tell you what to use.

Sand Point, Idaho! I believe that is the home of my favorite author/story teller/humorist - Mr. Patrick McManus, deceased recently. I hope a lot of you members on this forum may have had the opportunity to have enjoyed Pat through his unmatched use of outdoor mis-adventures to create some of the best humor that I've read. It would make you laugh until you cried while trying to read it. R.I.P., Pat.

Went to a couple charity events that McManus was part of and you had to laugh at his stories - great guy. R.I.P.

I've been to Sand point many times, I had to maintain some equipment at the airport there. Never got a chance to fish there but it's a nice scenic lake. As far as scenery, Priest River is near there, and it's gorgeous!

I agree about Pat McManus. Especially loved the stories that featured his buddy Retch Sweeney!

I serviced the generator sets at the Navy facility there, and was told that the lake has no thermocline and is 1,000 feet deep. That's why they do all the sound testing for subs there.

They still have items that surface or get hooked and brought up from the submarine testing done in the lake back during the WW2 era.

If you ever get to Sandpoint stop into Elmira’s Cafe for their Huckleberry Shake. Don’t think there is a better one in the world. They used to use Cascade Falls brand ice cream which I would eat over any other brand in the US. I am an ICE CREAM-AHOLIC!! the first part of a cure is to admit to it!😂😂 Have ridden a horse out of the hills 11 mi one way after hunting all day Just to get ice cream. Would get back to camp in time to eat, saddle up the other horses and head out for the day. Searched and searched for a current bush to plug a freezer into but could never find one. Stay safe out there

My memory of Pend Oreille is of Farragut State Park, host of a huge conglomeration of red jacketed Boy Scouts, 20-30 THOUSAND strong for a National Jamboree.
Just happened to coincide with the landing on the Moon ! Watched it on humongous screens, the 30K Scouts and probably half that many more sitting in an extremely huge outdoor natural(?) amphitheatre.
Must say that visual memory will never fade.
For us, the fishing was lame. Pens set up surrounded by docks, issued a rod and reel (what ? I dragged my flyrod from Kansas to Idaho, just to catch an Idaho trout, and now I can't use it ? Gotta use this POS and fish like I'm a toddler at the boat show tank ? "No thanks, I'll just watch"...I am almost 16 and waaay too cool for that crap... LOL ! Well, at least I thought I was.
Gotta make it back and fish it properly...a new reference point for my memory of such a beautiful place.
