As I've said earlier, I'm pretty new to fishing. Wasn't quite like this 35 years ago when I was active, especially in tying knots. I have both neuropathy and arthritis in my hands, especially my thumbs. I can barely see or feel lighter lines. Tying any knot has been very hard and painful. Now one thing I never forgot about fishing was you got to tie knots. Then I realized it was easy 35 years ago compared to now. My sweet wife bought me a set off Hook-Eze which are good for tying line to hooks and lures but the line to line stuff isn't easy. What I guess I'm asking is does anyone have an idea of which knot tying tool would be beneficial to me to easily tie uni and double uni's as well as some other knots? Thanks in advance for all the great info I expect to see here.

I have the same problems Frenchie. I have a couple of aids and I've found that they don't help much, but there is a learning curve with each type, I'm a mechanical dunce and I learn by screwing things up and making mistakes and it can be extremely frustrating when you're out on the water and you need or want to tie something new on. So - here's how I deal with it. No perfect solution I'm afraid, but it does make things a bit less aggravating and a bit more enjoyable.

I don't use real fine line anymore for leader or for my main line. I don't fly fish much, and if I do, I'm trying to pick up mono lining. Don't know if you're familiar with that and don't know if you fly fish, but if you do and you're interested go to troutbitten.com and there are several very good articles on it. I mostly fish for trout, and I've found that I can get away with using using 20# or so braid as my main line and 10# fluoro as my leader. If I go much smaller than that for either one it gives me difficulty. But that works for most situations, unless I'm fishing extremely clear water for extremely wary fish. The other thing I do is I pre-tie most of my rigs, I snell my own hooks, I find that much easier than trying to tie one on out on the water. If I'm trying to go line to line I tie a perfection loop at the end of my main line and then pass the loop of the snell through that and away you go. Easy on/easy off. If I'm doing a Carolina rig, put on your sinker and bead, then a large enough swivel to get your snell through and do the same thing. All kinds of ways to modify this basic set up and if you want to use the tying aid you can do it in the comfort of your work bench and good lighting. Like I said, not perfect, but that's what works for me. Glad to help if I can. Let me know.

I knew I could count on someone having a suggestion to assisting me in this! Thanks Spirit, I always enjoy your posts. Full of wisdom gained through experience. I think you've given me a way to at least take a lot of frustration out of this process. Thank you very much, sir.

Spirit, I think I got caught up in all the info on here and forgot about going back to basics. I did the things you mentioned when I fished as a kid. There were no Bass Pro’s or hundreds of rod or reel types or thousands of baits. A hook, a worm and a bobber and I was fishing. You really opened my eyes and renewed my confidence. Again, many thanks.

There are some good clips out there (some knot-less or work with simple knots) for putting your lure on. I found a small jewelers needle nose pliers helps me open and close them with my missing fingers.

My problem is nothing compared to missing fingers! Thanks for the info and I'll check it out.
