Are we talking braid or mono? And what are you fishing for? And what kind of water, very clear or somewhat stained or muddy? There's a lot of variables, and the ideal line will be determined by all those. Of course the manufacturers would like you to buy a rig for each type and for each species of fish, but who does that? As a general rule I personally use green braid and then change just the leader depending on the conditions and species of fish. Find a line you ike and stick with it.

Izorline platinum has been my go to line forever, it’s inexpensive, available everywhere, and has very little stretch, which translates to better hooksets and longevity. There was an 800 number to call, and I talked with Russ Izor himself, and he so welcomed my opinion and gratitude that he gifted me 2 500 yd spools of the lb test of my choice for free...he was one hell of a fisherman, so you know that’s the same testament of his person...

Welcome to the Forum, schammel. Please put the city down on your location. You could be my neighbor. As far as the line color, I think that is a personal preface. I know that two of us of a party of ten fishing walleyes in Canada a while back were using crystal colored Fireline and were not catching anything. Switched rods and reels with smoked colored Fireline on them and we caught walleye. I can't see the darker colored line as well but I don't think the fish can either. (MHO)

I don't think the fish care what color the line is, but that's my personal opinion. Especially in a big ol river like the Mississippi. I like clear fluoro if I'm fishing extremely clear water for rainbows and brookies, but trout can be really line shy, and fluoro is supposed to be invisible in the water. Catfish could not care less about line, how big or what color or what it's made of. So those are two of the extremes. Bass probably lie somewhere in between, but I don't bass fish, so you need to get advice on those from someone else.

I'm in Florida. For bass and cichlids I use darker green (not the bright green stuff) mono. In bays and the gulf I use blue braid and sometimes yellow braid, both with fluoro leaders. The yellow braid is more visible for me to see and the fish don't really seem to have a preference.

Maxima Chameleon is what I have used a lot for Salmon in Holes and in the Bays. 15 or 12 lb test. If we could only get the fish to talk. They probably do to each other. I doubt they would want all of us knowing what they can not see. Actually they wouldn't know what they cant see.
