Need some help Ive been looking at a 2019 Bonafide ss127 12'7" X34" Kayak it has a trolling motor, and fish finder. its says in small print that it has lots of tie downs if it turn over. Question how easy is it to turn this thing over ? Never been in a kayak ideas, do they have out riggers for kayaks?

I have seen outriggers that people have made for kayaks using pvc pips and pool noodles . There are so lots of websites that may sell specific outriggers for your kayak. They have instructions and YouTube videos on how to make and install them. Not sure if that helps you any.

The rounder the bottom of the kayak is the easier it is to flip. Any of them can turn over but some you really have to try in order to turn them over. If you have ever been in a canoe much then you will have no problem in kayak. However when your in a kayak.. The rule is to have all your gear strapped down unless you want to loose your gear. no one plans on flipping over but no one plans on falling down when walking either just things can happen sometimes out of your control and you fall down same thing basically. i have 3 and yes i have turned over and at the worst time the water temp was 33degrees last time i did. it was because i wasnt paying attention when i launched. You will do fine. like learning to ride a bicycle. at first your a lil shakey then things smooth out.

Hey hog you sound just like me 2 1/2 years ago. That is when I purchase my Bonafide SS 127. I am 6'2" in that 210lb weight range and stand 99% of the time. Only concern are the yahoos that come within casting distance to the yak. It handles 2' ruff waters well and with a vest PFD I am very confident in it. Rule of thumb is safety first. I didn't do the trolling motor because our waters are easy enough to get around. Plus the county wants a sticker on it if it has a motor. That also becomes personal property that they tax us on all because of that darn sticker.

Your first ride in it take it out un loaded with gear and in calm shallow waters try and stand. Get the feel of it and then Fish on.

All these are good advice. I’m 5’9 175. I do most fishing in the south Padre island Texas area. I own a ascend 10 I bought from bass pro. Start slow learn the water you are in. I’ve flipped mine once. I’m 70 yrs. I can’t think of any other place I would like to be more than fishing in my yak. I took advice from a licensed kayak guide there. Most important: if it looks sketchy...it probably is. So a big part of my great experience in kayaking has been learning about tides, currents and patience. Have fun.

It's not if you will flip a kayak but when. If you spend enough time on the water it's almost inevitable that it WILL happen. Always wear a PFD- always! You tube has videos on 'How to get back in a kayak in deep water". Watch, pay attention. When it happens, first rule is don't panic. Follow the steps and get your yak flipped right side up and then get yourself back in the yak. You can hunt for any lost gear later. There is only one of you but there are millions of other rods, reels, etc. Wear your PFD everytime you get in the kayak!

hogleg: The first time out in my new Lifetime 10-foot fishing kayak, I rolled it and lost my tackle box. I couldn't roll it upright, so had to tow it in to the beach doing the sidestroke. I decided then that my kayak needed outriggers. YouTube had several videos on DIY outriggers, and I liked one that showed how to make some out of PVC pipe and bullet-shaped polyurethane crab ring floats. The set I made work great!
