House Bill H.R. 5717

It is my understanding that this house bill will create a 30% tax on all guns and 50% tax on all ammo. I am against it. How about you?
Trump will never sign it.
What if they attach to it $30 billion to build his wall?

Lets hope that it doesn't get passed.
I know it's an unpopular view, but if the NRA doesn't ease up and allow some sort of "reasonable" firearms regulation, and the mass shootings continue, there is going to be serious debate in this country about repeal of the second amendment. Times and the country have changed since the 18th century. Time for folks to realize that and sit down and work out a solution.

I am sorry, but I disagree. It is time for the House to come alongside those of the majority of the US states. Note I did not say the majority of the people as there are some east and west coasters that would have the 2nd repealed. However, if you look at it from a States choice one would have a hard time getting support for its repeal.

I agree with you. It isn't like there aren't a lot of gun laws on the books now.
People think that we need more.
Hint, bad guys don't follow rules.
I'm not saying I think it's a good idea. I'm saying I can see the writing on the wall. The 2nd amendment says that you have the right to own a firearm, and the Supreme Court has interpreted that to mean that you have a right to defend yourself in your home. Beyond that the court hasn't had a whole lot to say about it, other than the fact that your right to own a weapon is not absolute - you may not legally own certain weapons, such as fully automatic (without a special permit), and most "military" type ordnance. You have no right to a nuclear warhead. Nor a tank. I think most of us would probably agree on that. So. Where do you draw the line? This is an idea that can come to a resolution through negotiation and compromise. Both sides can set down and figure it out and agree on something that will work. The pendulum is swinging in the wrong direction for the 2nd amendment. It must either bend, or be broken. Not saying that's right or that I agree. That's just the way things are. My opinion.

Like I said there are all ready laws on the books about who can and can't own a weapon and which weapons and modifications are illegal.
Bad guys don't care about laws or negotiations, they'll get what ever they want.
Should we ban the right of people to own fishing equipment because some people poach?
You're preachin to the choir Larry. Far as I'm concerned you can own any damned thing you want. And grow your own weed. And make your own whiskey. Pay them whores to polish your hozinga. Drive on which ever side of the road you choose. At heart I am a stone cold libertarian. But I'm also a realist.

Well then Chief we can agree. LOL.
Nothing wrong with a good and honest debate.
Have a good evening.
