Caught on a live goggle eye in 300 feet of water off Palm Beach, FL. There were tons of mahi out there today, I saw at least half a dozen but they weren’t interested in anything but live bait and I ran out after this guy. Tried jigs and lures but they just tainted me, mere feet away.

Always carry cut bait. Mahi will go for it when nothing else works. The scent gets them worked up. You ca Old have even cut a piece off the one you caught and they will eat it. Cannibalism.

I had a dead gog in the water and they would sniff it a couple times but never bite it. Picky jerks.

Cut it up. The scent of the meat and blood will get them going.

Do you worry about boats not seeing you out there? I kayak out of Tampa and thought about shooting over to the east coast and fishing the reef for mahi. Maybe have a flag of some sort in a rod holder. Curious. Thanks

I personally don’t worry about it but I know guys down south of me have had some troubles. I don’t use a flag (I know I should) but if I see a boat heading towards me I stick my yellow paddle in the air and wave it frantically. Come over anytime and I’ll show you how it’s done
