Sense the beginning most all crank baits, top water baits and a few I’m forgetting have treble hooks. Take em off. Think the fish haven’t noticed? Replace em with a good short shank hook. To the fish it’s new and you will have more hook ups. The one leg to them is a different offering.

It could very well be. Some salmon lures only have single hooks. Any thoughts on this guys/gals? I very seldom fish with lures.

So you’re saying to replace treble hooks on hard baits with short shank single hooks ???

It sounds strange but it’s worked for me. It’s just different to the fish.

Mentioned this in another post - in California it's not legal to fish for some species (salmon, steelhead) (?) with more than one hook. So some lure manufacturer's recognize this and provide both. Never heard of doing it to present a different look, but why not? And it sure is easier get one hook out than three. I think it's a great idea.

Have to watch how you put the hook on though,if your not paying attention it will turn and be in a backward position.

That's how I learn to do it correctly. That's how I learn most stuff - by screwin up.

Hey again MT, VMC,makes a special hook just for that purpose. It's called an inline hook. The eye is inline with the bend of the hook. That way it rides either up or down, not at an angle off to one side..They make them from size 6 up to 4/0. Check em out.

I swap out a lot of my spoons and put single hooks on them, especially for bluefish. It's a lot easier to take the hook out of that mouthful of teeth.
