Went fishing on our lake yesterday and once again hooked a crappie and it was bitten by a large bass.
So my question today is ............................ Is it

A the sight of blood or color of such
B the smell of blood or smell of distress
C the sounds of distress and would it be vibrations [buzzing or rattles]

D all the above

The best food for fish is FISH. Many baits are simply just fish.

Hit the nail on the head Jeremy, big fish eat smaller fish. Some big fish eat or try to eat things almost as big as they are. I once found a Smallmouth bass struggling on top of the water, when I inspected it the SM had a bream bigger than my hand stuck in it's mouth. It couldn't get the bream down or spit it out. We netted the fish and struggled to get the bream out of it's mouth but finally released the smallmouth back into the lake. How it though the bream would go down is anyones guess but I'm certain it would have died with that bream stuck in it's mouth.

LOL sometimes we all try to take more than we can handle but I would have kept both depending on the size and rules

thanks all yea live bait mostly always use it what Im interested in is what triggers them mostly distressed bait that is an easy meal.

I'm looking for that edge in distressed bait that drives them crazy for an easy meal. It's probably like finding the right way to get to the treasure on Oak Island LOL

Several articles by pros here.
Hard to pin down a reason . Depends on the fish thinking.

Hit the nail on the head Jeremy, big fish eat smal... (show quote)

I caught 6 pound walleye with a 3 pound pikeminnow stuck in his mouth and he still hammered my rattle trap. Half of the pikeminnow (squaw fish) was sticking out of his mouth. I called it a 9 pound walleye. Lol. I weighed them together and then separately. They wouldn’t pay me for the pikeminnow though. They won’t take em if they’re mutilated and the front half was kinda smunched. 😂

a fish in distress will almost always attract a bigger fish that is looking for an easy meal

Not a fish story but checking pigs one day found a big black snake dead with a 3 or 4 pound pig in it's mouth.

I’d say c because when you fish with bait fish or shiners with a lead sinker and bobber the shiner or bait fish is trying to get off the hook so it’s in distress trying to get away and seems to be injured and Fishon Fishon!!!!

bggent I would say C. all the way for Bass of all types. That's the reasoning behind vibrating lures. It's also the theory for the HydroWave ,which you'll find on every tournament anglers boat. Even Wally Marshall "Mr Crappie " has designed one with crappie feeding sounds. All of the scented lures are mainly to cover human scent. Come on, how would a bass recognize coffee, or garlic????
