A question for lowcountry fishermen

I’m visiting my in-laws this week who live in Bluffton, South Carolina (near Hilton Head). When I’m down here in the summer, we crush redfish and speckled trout in the May River and surrounding creeks, but I’ve never gone out fishing in the winter. If I want to try to get on some reds this week, should I be going out at a certain tide? We’ll be taking the boat out probably twice.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Reds are hard to come by anywhere in-shore when the water is cold. They will be in the harbors and other deeper water off shore, usually.
