Here is the next problem I need help with. When I leave shore power behind, how can I run my electric items in my boat? I need to run my CPAP machine at night. My stove and small microwave for cooking and some small electric items. Coffee pot, TV etc. Is solar the best and what is required! Extra batteries etc??? How many solar panels etc. Thanks for your input.

Hey Rocky, I use a CPAP also, I bought a 12volt adapter that plugs into a cigarette lighter plug in. Works good. Cannot use the humidifier with it tho. The solar will run the TV but the coffee pot n microwave takes a bunch more juice. For that I just carry a 2000 what Honda generator it will run everything except an air conditioner.

I think we might need a little more information here. Even with an inverter to turn 12v into 120v it's ????????

I know you said you're living on your boat, but I don't remember how big or if you said how big? I'm pretty sure if you need all that wattage you're gonna hafta get a generator. Or a bank of batteries, some way to recharge em and an inverter.

Good advice on the CPAP. I don't usually use the humidifier anyway. Gets to hot. Thought about the generator but the quieter Honda is out of my price range and the harbor freight I heard was very loud. Still thinking about it though. My son is sold on solar panels.

Plan on staying on my boat out in open water from time to time. Maybe several nights at a time

I have a medium size inverter. 4000 peak. But I don't know how to keep the batteries charged.

I'd change the big draw items stove, coffee pot, hot water heater, and fig. if you have these to propane. that leaves a lot more battery power for your other items.
