Need help or advise on how to control spiders in a covered slip. My slip at the marina on Lake Lavon in
Texas, is prone to infestation of spiders. Have to spend several minutes every visit just to knock down the spider webs.

Search online for either "NBS-30" or "Bug Juice".

I've personally used the NBS-30 product with great results on log and timber frame homes that I have built. Can be mixed into finishes or just sprayed onto surfaces. Both were good products.

Let us know as the only constant I know is spiders love water and hanging out under piers, docks, awnings, etc. Must be due to the abundance of bugs.

3C's: Hoss, you might try spraying with WD40! Since you probably already have that, it has been reported to kill wasps and yellow jackets, and I've even heard that by spraying your shoes and ankles, it will prevent being bitten by chiggers! None of this proven, but worth a try! Just Sayin...RJS

RJS Thankful that chigger or most other insects will not brother to bite me. I don't know if is because I am so tough or smell so bad. In either case I am lucky compared to most.

I just hate getting spider webs on me.

Consider Hot Shot Pest strips. They work well on my boat.

had my boat on lavon for years. everybody on the covered docks stretched a tarp or netting from the roof supports over the boats. they said the movement of the hanging stuff in the wind kept the spiders away. i didn't use it my first year there back in '91 and they crapped all over the place. the webs in your face were bad enough but the droppings were a b tch to wash off; would actually stain white fiberglass.
ccc, spiders are the least of your worries; theres gators in lavon[or at least were 20yrs ago] which wont' bother you much if you stay in the boat but the cottonmouth [water mocasin] if you piss one off [and sometimes you dont even have to] will not only chase you but try to climb into a boat. bin there dun that

I am in processing of installing tarp above pontoon because I have been told it helps. My boat is in the
East Fork Harbor Marina. Are you still at Lavon? I have not had problems with snake in the pontoon but before with ski boat and open boat, yes they can be a problem. No gators that I have seen, have heard of them tho but since I don't go in the water I don't worry about them.

I am trying the tarp and also using the Ortho Home Defense Insect killer as spray. Will post later if either work or doesn't work,.

RJS, since you seem to be from Texas, I'll bet you can remember back when we were youngsters and every where we went outdoors ticks and chiggers, or red bugs, would cover you up. Picking dewberries in the spring next to a rice cannel was the worst. Do you remember how bad the ticks could be for a dog that no one took care of?

Then came the fire ants. Word around the campfire is that the fore ants ate up the ticks and chiggers. I'll take the ants. It is easier to avoid them if you are looking. Go catch something!!!
