With all of the lockdown measures put in place i think its right to temporarily close fishing in general. I see a lot of arguements for and against fishing being classed as an exercising activity. What are your thoughts?

I think fishing is exercise especially for bank fisherman. Walking trails to get to a good spot on a river/creek or around a pond. Plus fishing was social distancing before it was cool.

No. Standing around waiting with a stick in your hand is not exercise. Throw in some air squats and pushups though and you’re on to something. Stay hydrated.

Make yourself hike and wade through water, yes. Also fun to fish till last second racing back before it gets dark to get more work in

You can map it out over maps, and also look for trails with gradient/incline. Then once you hit the creek. Wade upstream against current.

Even for hard to get to spots I wouldn't consider it exercise. Though it would be social distancing. But if it was considered, I just envision a bunch of jerks shoulder to shoulder at a subdivision pond.

Idk where you are or what kind of fishing you do, some fishing is exorcise, some isn't. My typical fishing is for steelhead in upper reaches of rivers, very canyony. An average day for me is 5 to 10 miles of hiking, crossing rmthe river and walking river banks. I also bass fish out of a boat, that isn't exorcise.

I would count it as an outdoor activity and think it should stay open. Reeling in a 200lb shark for 45 minutes is an exercise though, wore me out and I'm pretty fit

Exercising my lungs with fresh air is a good enough reason for me to keep exercising.
Sitting here talking about it isn't exercise other then for the eye to hand movement.

I think Starry177 just wanted to start an argument. People in my neighborhood are walking and riding bikes. I talk to most and they say there not doing it for the exercise. Its to get out the house. They get bored sitting around and so do there kids. Some fishing is exercise some is not. But fishing does release a lot of stress. Good answer corndogge
Let's hope it's not exorcise. Have a ghost come out of the water, yikes!! LOL

Unless you're in a boat or just sitting on the bank, you won't get much exercise. If you're a lure caster and work around areas that is different, walking and casting gives you plenty. Sitting in front of a pc most of the day won't help one bit

I don't know about that. My mouse finger seems to have developed more muscle since the lockdown! Lol
