I fish fresh water only once a year up at Lake George in NY. Mostly bass, but when its slow I turn to pan fish. This year I want to switch to braid. Fish are normally no more than 2-3 lbs. what size braid and leader do you freshwater guys recommend.

I use 6 lb fire line or proline on my light action rods. Great for panfish and you won’t have any problems with big small mouth bass! Usually use a mono or fluorocarbon leader 18-24” on the end for clear water fishing.

10 pound Power Pro braid. You only need a fluoro leader when fishing very clear water. 10# braid is about the diameter of 2# mono. If you must use a leader, 6# should be plenty for panfishing. You will be impressed with your move to braid,

How's your eyesight? I fish for mostly pan-size trout in very clear water and I used to use 2# fluoro as a leader, but I can't see it anymore to tie it. So I now use 10#. 10# braid and 2# fluoro work great for smaller fish. If you're fishing for bluegill, you don't need the leader, they're not a bit line shy. Or anything shy. They're ferocious. I they got to the size of pike you wouldn't be able to go in the water.

My eyes are not that good anymore, so I'll stick to a bit larger leader. It's necessary for me to bring a pair of glasses along when I fish now if I plan on tying line on the shore or in my kyak. Bluegill are great fun to catch
Thanks

I have a hard time seeing 6 lb fluoro line when using untra small (to me) hooks. Fishing up state NY for Brown Trout and Salmon.
