Hello all, i am looking for my first baitcaster and would like something sub or around $50. Im not well versed in fishing but i know the basics. I have been interested in the KastKing Royale Legend as it seems to be a decent reel for the price. Would love to hear other options too.

If its relevant I mainly fish freshwater lakes and ponds for bass

I'm with the Lew's suggestions. Abu makes a fine reel in the upper end pricing but not so much in the cheep. Lew's has been around for as long as I can remember and they make good stuff.

Save up a few more bucks and buy a Shimano....cheap baitcasters just don’t work and you will be sorry you spent the $50.00.
I use to own a store and have over thirty years in the fishing business as a salesrep for some of the leading manufacturers in the fishing tackle industry.....II know what I am talking about.

Before you go and but anything you should go to a store and put a left handed reel on a pole and so how you like it and do the same with a right handed reel. Don't just decide by what you hear like this a right handed reel and this is a left handed reel as you will hear a lot of sales people saying that but are they even fishermen.

Back in the 70's reels only came with the handle on the right hand side so Grandpa and dad only learned to use that type of reel and some people still only learn to use that kind of reel but things have changed since then, but some people still think like that so just buy what type of reel feels best for you so test them out for yourself first before you buy any reel and even a good used Shimano will be better then a new cheap reel.

Hey 34,think the shimano salesman came out of the woodwork along with some Lew’s guys. There is no right or wrong answer to your question or these answers. All good reels, but $50 will disappoint you. Add $50 to your $50 and get a better product. Still gonna backlash.

ABU Garcia used to make the most dependable, lasting reels when they were made in sweden. Now that most are china based---its not hard to see their quality has slipped considerably.
