I’m new to this forum. I have questions about Big Bear Lake Ca. Is the lake open all year for fishing? I know it’s currently closed due to Covid19. Any idea when it will reopen?

Welcome to the Forum, Mike & Ruth. Sorry, being in MN. I can't help you out. The CA. DNR website should tell you. Please go back to where you registered and put your location, city, and state, in your profile sheet. Thank you!

I believe the lake is open to fishin year round however, I think it partially freezes over durin the winter. So you might have to find where the water is open to fish in the winter. There are some huge trout in the lake so if you go, I would not suggest usein ultra light gear. Let us know if you go , how you do. Could you put your location in your profile ? Thanks, and tight lines.

Welcome to the forum mike and ruth. Yes Big Bear is normally open year round. With very few exceptions, most reservoirs in the state are open year round, and most rivers not located up in the mountains. The mountain streams close for trout fishing from November to end of Apri. If you have questions about specific bodies of water, go to CA dfw online and look at the regs. There are quite a few of us Californians on here, and some from that area, so go back into your profile and add your location (city and state) to it. And we love photos on here. Send pics.

I've fished Big Bear, and will do so this spring. One year I was fishing about 60 feet deep near the dam. It was cold. We caught our limit of big rainbows. I forgot to lock my real. They hit so hard the handle jerked and spun. My hands and fingers were cold and it hurt like the dickins. We were using Green Power Bait. Good luck.
