That is why sharks are called tax collectors and visa versa.

Thats what barricudas do to a lot of fish. I was reaching down to grab a fish one time an fish ,hook, line and sinker were gone. Glad my hand was not down there. I use a net always. That was Big Pine Key

fishing in Marathon I hooked a nice snapper, about 10 feet from me a Cuda bit it in half. I watched him swallow his share (back half) he didn't leave so I gave the head a couple of twitches and he went for it. waited until he had completely swallowed it then set the hook. Hell of a nice fight! when I got the poor bastard in I had a tough time removing the hook, it was stuck in his jaw bone. wound up taken out a tooth with the hook. he hung around the same spot for two days. his tooth is still in my tackle box.

Ripoqenu - Did you see the shark? Reason I ask, that looks more like a barracuda bite. They love to bite them in half and also hang around flats where bonefish are commonly found.

Funny how they take the best half.
I remember fishing in a club tourney, one guy hooked a snapper and was about to net it and a seal came up to take the fish, ended up taking his net as well, we heard about that for weeks

We had trouble with seals and sea lions on the lower Columbia stealing fish. You talk about an increase in the load. Add a 700 pound sea lion to a 15 pound Chinook and it’s a game changer. It don’t last long but it’s a thrill until your line breaks. Seals are no easy task either. They add a couple hundred pounds to an, already, tricky reeling operation. Most seals and sea lions win but some lose it. The seals sit around in the water like giant bobbers and as soon as you stand up in the boat, ploop, ploop, ploop, they all go down. Then it’s reel you arms off to try to out run em. Usually can’t but once in a while they’ll be watching a different boat and don’t get to you in time. 👍

Yep, we fished out from an island and the seals would follow the boats trolling and take the live baits. If you anchored they would go from boat to boat looking for an easy meal
