finding fish, by species, throughout the year

Hello, Apparently I will be l will be undergoing reverse shoulder replacement surgery and have been told the rehab will be a year due to the extend of damage. I see this as an opportunity to stockpile information.
I am retired. I choose to spend a part of that upcoming time in researching fishing and pursuing those opportunities of that sport, when I am functional once again. Apparently major fishing opportunities can be had with 1 1/2 hours of where we have retired to, in the Rockies in Northern New Mexico. Apparently there are some significant possibilities here due to the fact this is the 4th largest state with the 3rd smallest state population. I plan to fish from a "set on" kayak, easily transported on my 4x4.
For all practical purposes I have not fished for 30+ years. First challenges will be finding fish where they are currently at on larger reservoirs/dams without a radar unit. There is no way I would take one of these units aboard a kayak particularly with these winds at 6,500+ feet in the Rockies.
I would appreciate insights into learning more about seasonal movements of: large, small mouth bass and also the silvers, sunfish, crappies, walleyes, northerns, trout: both stocked rainbows and the natives browns. Since I have the time I might as well learn virtually everything I can about these fish here. Initial information received is that there is virtually nobody in this area that fishes for Crappies and Walleyes which taste so good. This astonishes me, who was raised in the Midwest. I perceive a huge opportunity here.

Gene So: Welcome, Hoss! You have found the right place. You do not need the latest in electronic gear, sonar, and such. Folks have fished since they've walked on Earth without such gear. It would help you to purchase some charts of the water you plan on fishing. That will give you some ideas of the bottom contours, the creeks and underwater points and relative depths.

Keep that, and also record when and where, what weather conditions, that you've fished and where you've had success in catching anything. Are you getting the idea that fishing in a "do it yourself" type activity, well, you'd be right.

Remember, EXPERIENCE, is at best a poor teacher, First the test, then the lessons! You will find a lot of good information on researching Youtube for ideas.

Other fishermen who are familiar with your area will probably be chiming in shortly. Good Luck, Just Sayin...RJS

Welcome to the Forum. You could have long year ahead of you, you have my prayers. I would wait until after rehab to buy the yak. You don't know about that shoulder.

Hello flyguy,

That is the plan. BY then I should be pretty well setup. I already have a well made paddle and anchor setup.

Thanks,
Gene

Thanks folks,
I will finally get to see my Dr. for a physical exam tomorrow at 8:30 , which is the last of many requirements prior to when the surgery can be held. The information I have received on this site and others is providing me with a significant amount of insights. So, a year from now, at this pace I shall be finally allowed to hit the waters here in NE New Mexico, and put that knowledge to use. It seems incongruous that we have retired to the 4th largest state in the Union and it has less population than either Minneapolis or Seattle.
Thanks again,
Gene So

Maybe like some golfers have a Caddy, you could have someone similar to do the "heavy lifting" and you enjoy the ride.
