So I’ve just gotten into bass fishing over the past couple weeks and I’ve had some good days, a lot of bad days and I’m really struggling to get any sort of consistent bites. I’ve had one day where I caught four bass on a wacky rig and that has kind of been my go to but I haven’t had much success besides that. I also have a spinner bait, buzz bait, frog, three colors or senkos and some craw for Texas rigs. I’ve watched tons of videos and done my best to try and find some sort of pattern but I can’t seem to find any. I go fishing almost every afternoon from about 5:30-8 in the same muddy lake and just cycle through all the baits, switching every probably 45 minutes. I know the fish are there, I can see them and see them eating small fish and bugs and see other folks catching them. Is there a better way to find out what they’re chomping on that day? Is there any advice y’all could give me? I would really appreciate it!

Im not the best at bass fishing, so my advice might not work. I would try different colors, or see if you can find something that matches what they're eating in that pond.

I appreciate it! Definitely try and find a bluegill crank bait and give it a shot! Thanks!

Far from an expert but bouncing a Texas rigged finesse worm has done nicely for me last spring. This is one of those things you’ll get 1000 answers on because there are just so many options. It sounds like you’re using the right stuff lure wise. Try throwing stuff over weeds and around structure if you can. If it’s clear I like to use bluegill/green pumpkin/perch colored lures and if it’s murky or cloudy I’ll go dark like black with red flake. Silver Shad/minnow colors are good too when it’s clear. One thing that might help is YouTubing what lures you are using to see pros working them.

Ya I should probably look up how to work the lures more, I appreciate the advice! I’ll definitely check out those colors

Good luck, sounds like you’re having more success than me this season.

It's pretty hit or miss sometimes, especially early season. Check out some youtube videos for more tips and tricks. That's how I learned! I'd recommend Jon B and SBFishing! I find early season I catch the most fish on jerkbaits, online spinners, and big jigs with creature baits such as a craw. Keep fishing, never stop!

Also try a jointed Shad rap in a green color. They work well for me.

Coming out of winter, the bass were really on every morning early. My main lure was a white shad soft lure, lead head. They're $1.22 for 2 in walmart. I cast out around 30 yards about 6 ft from the bank and wind steady, not too fast. The hits are incredible on braid and feel every movement. One morning hooked a crappie on the lure as well. I have 1 rod rigged with a rooster tail and switch if I get a hit and miss on the shad. Hope this is helpful
They call it fishing for a reason! If not it would be called catching! Just remember they don’t bite everyday you’re on the right track if your pond is muddy try dark colors and noises baits and shinny blades and Fishon Fishon!!!!

Next time you catch a fish, open up the stomach to see what's inside. If it's not too digested, it should be a recognizable critter...

If other people are catchin, try to see what they are usein. You also said you saw them eatin small fish. Try usein a small swim bait. I have great success usein them. I use a 3.75 inch Rage Swimmer you get at Walmart on a1/4 oz or so jig head. They work really well in our lakes here in Cali.
Haha just kidding . Get some shiners and fish for the big 10lb bass.
