Hey Cubsfan...mostly in Pensacola bay off a dock, canoe or kayak. Just like you even on the dock or canoe I take two or three prerigged four if I throw one out with a pinfish. Have a couple of friends with boats to go offshore again at least three...bait getter, bottom rig & casting rig just for that cobia or dolphin... Just got back learning a lesson first time had a albright knot fail due to user error...put on a new sidewinder lure some dummy didn't cinch down the knot. Was in a hurry...beautiful cast lure flew just fine...off it went into the wild blue yonder...
I attach all my lines to leader & mono to braid with an albright...one of these days I may try uni to uni...
Should have taken my mullet net the place was swarming with them...
Where do you do most of your fishing?

I mostly fish off the dock...have several kayaks when the kids were home & two canoes....canoes offer more creature comfort...now it's time for the grand kids to start using them. The one in my avatar is one of my next victims for catching pinfish...you get spoiled when the kids got all the bait you needed...

As someone who wants to expand his interest in recreational fishing as a pastime, and a lifelong hobby & recreational activity I am in need of advice of how to avoid having too much equipment that you don't use it.

I understand that a variety of equipment is needed for fishing besides the fishing rod, lures & bait. You need a wide variety of various lures to attract certain fish, additional fishing line, pliers for cutting line, pliers for getting a hook out of your catches mouth if its stuck etc.

I just don't want to get to the point of having so much I end up not using all of the equipment I buy. I want to keep everything in one tackle box (I like the look of those Plano made ones) have have a fishing rod for light, medium, heavy and sea fishing (the long rotes you stick on the beach and wait for a catch), and a fly fishing rod. I want to make sure I have a use for each and use each rod ocaccsionally.

What do you think and what would your advice be?

Mary the right woman and she will tell you that you have too much and can't buy any more as well as she will tell you to get rid of some of it and only one rod is all you need!

So you have wittled down your fishing gear and you get a great invite to go fishing with someone, BUT, you got rid ofthe tackle needed or never had it in the first place, are you going to say sorry I can't go with you i don't have the gear? My kids, Grandson will be very happy what they get from me when I am gone!

I made a fly rod for an acquaintance. He said if I could weave the marine corps emblem on it he would buy one. I said it won't be cheap to have that weave (or any weave for that matter) anyway turned out great and his wife made monthly payments to me. well he took it fishing with him to his son's place in Montana and he told me that his two grown sons both want it when he dies.
